The Estate in Salta received the Agricultural Excellence Award

El Bordo de las Lanzas Estate received the Agricultural Excellence Award

Estancia El Bordo de las Lanzas earned another award by receiving the La Nación – Banco Galicia Agricultural Excellence Award in the "Best Agrotourism Proposal" category.

This award, which has been presented for the past ten years, highlights various activities related to production.

It has 16 categories that recognize rural men and women who innovate in this sector, a driving force of the country's interior economy, and who also strive for excellence, commitment, and hard work.

"There is a common denominator among all the award winners: a sense of federalism, commitment, innovation, and social inclusion, because social responsibility also exists here in job creation," clarified Gastón Bourdieu, manager of Banco Galicia's wholesale banking area, at the award ceremony.

“At El Bordo de las Lanzas, we don't provide services; we share experiences. We let our guests experience the authenticity, tradition, and hospitality in every detail,” emphasized Magdalena Figueroa de Arias, Tourism Manager, at the award ceremony.

The Award

Best Agro-Tourism Proposal: Estancia El Bordo de las Lanzas was one of the first establishments in the country to implement agrotourism or “estancia tourism.” This non-traditional form of tourism is a sustainable activity with a significant multiplier effect and benefits local communities. It is a productive establishment: its main crops include sugarcane, beans, and sorghum. Trials are also conducted with non-traditional production and small livestock. Guests, especially foreigners, choose this option on their trips to get to know the country from the inside: they share daily life in the Argentine countryside, interacting with their hosts: the gauchos, the estancia employees, and the Arias family.

One of the characteristics that sets El Bordo de las Lanzas apart is that visitors are not just "clients" but guests, and at the end of their stay, they become friends.

This activity, fully integrated into the company's agricultural and livestock production, has contributed to the conservation and maintenance of the farm's "sala" (the name given to ranch houses in northwestern Argentina), a house of great historical value, having been built by the mother of General Martin Miguel de Güemes for one of her daughters between the late 18th and early 29th centuries.

El Bordo de las Lanzas uses agrotourism both as a CSR tool and as a way to generate benefits for the community (see http://www.turismoelbordo.com.ar/compromiso_social.php). Since the tourism industry began, activities have been carried out that have integrated foreign visitors into the local community: foreign musicians gave concerts in the town; Tourists of different nationalities shared information about the life, geography, and history of their countries at the local school, among other activities. The folkloric dance group Ballet de Niños Jose Hernández (directed by Professor Pacheco) is regularly hired to showcase native cultural expressions to visitors, thus contributing to the preservation of our traditions.

About El Bordo de las Lanzas: It covers an area of 2,500 hectares. It is one of the oldest ranches in the country; its property titles date back to 1609. It is located 60 km from the city of Salta and 70 km from the city of Jujuy in a subtropical valley. The Spanish colonial-style house has nine rooms with en suite bathrooms. It offers a variety of activities: a swimming pool, horseback riding, carriage or bicycle rides, trekking, a visit to the "El Totoral" nature reserve—where you can observe alligators, birds, and native flora—and to the various crops.
