Wine and more

Cafayate, meaning "the tomb of sorrows" in the Cacana language, is the heart of Salta wine.
The city, with its last-century church, its tree-lined streets, and its spacious mansions, has its own charm. However, there's no doubt that its charm lies in its surroundings, where life bustles among vineyards and wineries, where the famous Torrontés wine is born.
To reach this land of Bacchus, you border the Río de las Conchas, one of the many names given to the Calchaquí region. For miles and miles, not a single town can be seen. Alemanía, a town that seems to break that rule, is deserted, a ghost town. However, the whole attraction lies in the curious shapes that erosion carved along the way: El Sapo, El Fraile, El Obelisco, La Garganta del Diablo (it's worth a visit), El Anfiteatro, Los Castillos (The Devil's Throat).
Visiting a winery helps you understand the complicated process that transforms grapes into wine and is an excellent opportunity to taste different varieties and vintages.
